Yard Sale find


Happy Monday Everyone!

My newest toy came from a yard sale. We drove by a neighborhood we have never been to and stumbled across an amazing farm with lake, cows and a so very nice man. We talked for a long time before even looking at his treasures. He had the coolest stuff, an old truck, a cast iron bench with horse carriage wheels, a seating group from wine barrels and what we now call hutch. I saw it and fell in love. For only $45 it was ours. He wrote down his number and said we need to come back to visit. I asked if we could buy his house/farm/awesome land, IT IS FOR SALE.. if he gets the right offer. He turned it down couple months ago when offered 5.5 Million. JUST a tiny bit out of our price range, I guess we come visit then.

Once home I got the sander out, some painters tape and got to work.  


When all the previous stain was gone, it got painted with some pre stain minwax before two coats of Bombay Mahagony Satin stain were applied. This stuff is sticky and I was covered from head to toe.


Look at this difference

First coat done, now 5 hours of drying time - and cleaning myself.

A second coat was applied and about 24 hours later, moved to our dining room where it now fits our bombay stained dining room table. I'm so glad we made the decision to stain it. It looks so much better, what do you think?

Wing Chair Recovery - Part II

Only for those of you who already forgot how the wing chair looked when I first got it, here is a picutre which I took in the thrift store! For the amazing price of $18 it is all mine.   Too nasty to sit in, I first ripped off all of the fabric, (I'll spare you the details, since I blogged about that before ) layed the old fabric out, cut the new fabric pieces a little bigger than the old ones and made little fabric piles. I bought about 9' of fabric online at http://www.fabric.com/  I kept all of the old buttons, cut little circles and sewed fabric on each of them. I can tell you, that was my least favorite part.    After all 27 buttons were done, the back seat was the first piece that I re-buttoned.   The buttons go all the way through the fabric and cushion - the back part gets spread apart and rests on the foam. Ruffled Pillow

I feel like its time for a pillow fight with all the pillows I have made this past year. The last one of the year is a white one After the pillow was all done, I started to cut some felt circles, glued them onto fabric with liquid stitch. I cut all the different sizes of circles out, laid them on top of each other and hand stitched them together. For the middle of the pillow I decided on having a ruffled band. For that I used my ruffler attachment on the sewing machine. It is so easy, I don't know why I waited a year to try it out. I sewed the ruffled band to the pillow and laid the six circles on it to see how I need to space them out.             For four circles I decided to make flowers. I stitched the outside of each fabric circle and knotted the thread after pulling it together until a flower like circle appeared. Did that to all layers and hot glued a shiny button.  ...

The Nursery - Final reveal

  I know you couldn't wait any longer to find out if we are going to have a boy or girl. I don't keep it any longer from you, I promise.   Both of us wanted a boy, but really just a healthy little baby is all we asked for.   Since I don't count to the younger childbearing generation anymore, there were some tests that I had to do. One of them is for down syndrome. Scary stuff, let me tell you. With that test though, you can find out the gender and when I received the call with the results, I immediately started crying. Happy and over the moon that the baby is completely healthy but totally in shock that it is a.... CAN YOU SAY BOY???   No wonder I have hair growing like crazy in my face, all this testosterone in me probably doesn't help the weirdest pregnancy outcomes.
