Sometimes you just have to have new pillows..

..and why not create them yourself? Now that I have my own sewing machine and we finally became friends, I think of all the things I could sow . All my life, my mom tried to teach me how to sow, and it went well, until she left me alone and I got immediately stuck and could not get it to work. Maybe I didn't try hard enough but it was just always so frustrating that I stopped. Now, that I'm in the States and my mom is too far away to help me fix whatever needs to be shortened, or changed, I just wanted to try again. Bj, my American mom gave me her old sewing machine for Christmas, gave me a lesson, and helped me getting started. Also I got stuck ones, it is going pretty well now. I ordered nice fabric from Jo-Ann's, and started off with some hold-backs with Velcro for our new curtains. They look pretty cute and it was easy enough to not give up after the first sowing project!


My next project was to sew matching pillows with zippers to easily change them out. Have you ever looked for zippers? I went everywhere. Jo-Ann’s is not really that convenient located to our house, so I went to Michaels, Anna’s Linens, Sears, Macy’s and Wal-Mart, my friend to Hobby Lobby, but not a chance to find red zippers in 14”. Totally frustrated I went back to Jo-Ann’s and got me some nice red zippers in the right length. I already love that store! Finally at home, I cut the fabric to 30” x 15” and sowed the zippers on each of the long side.



It started out to be a little difficult, but I figured it out and have already several differnt colors and sizes of pretty nice looking new pillows.




Of course there are more to come in the next couple of days! :)

Wing Chair Recovery - Part II

Only for those of you who already forgot how the wing chair looked when I first got it, here is a picutre which I took in the thrift store! For the amazing price of $18 it is all mine.   Too nasty to sit in, I first ripped off all of the fabric, (I'll spare you the details, since I blogged about that before ) layed the old fabric out, cut the new fabric pieces a little bigger than the old ones and made little fabric piles. I bought about 9' of fabric online at http://www.fabric.com/  I kept all of the old buttons, cut little circles and sewed fabric on each of them. I can tell you, that was my least favorite part.    After all 27 buttons were done, the back seat was the first piece that I re-buttoned.   The buttons go all the way through the fabric and cushion - the back part gets spread apart and rests on the foam. Ruffled Pillow

I feel like its time for a pillow fight with all the pillows I have made this past year. The last one of the year is a white one After the pillow was all done, I started to cut some felt circles, glued them onto fabric with liquid stitch. I cut all the different sizes of circles out, laid them on top of each other and hand stitched them together. For the middle of the pillow I decided on having a ruffled band. For that I used my ruffler attachment on the sewing machine. It is so easy, I don't know why I waited a year to try it out. I sewed the ruffled band to the pillow and laid the six circles on it to see how I need to space them out.             For four circles I decided to make flowers. I stitched the outside of each fabric circle and knotted the thread after pulling it together until a flower like circle appeared. My new toy..

Last week when we picked up our new dining room table at Borders, I became the lucky owner of a CRAFT ROOM! I’m still so excited about it. My own private room where I can have all my little projects lined up and organized, or just all of them messy, laid out in the room with the door shut. You already think, what does this have to do with a new dining room table? Let me tell you! J We had this spare room before and couldn’t decide what we are going to do with it. We have two guest bedrooms upstairs, one already furnished for guests the other one empty. We were thinking about renting one room, but I’m just not that kinda girl. I need my privacy and want to lay on the couch whenever I want to, without a stranger in my house. I thought about a baby’s room – but I guess that is a little too early.
