Ready for some vacation

Image
We haven't been on vacation in a very long time. The last "real vacation" was last July to Hawaii to celebrate our first anniversary. Since I have a trade show coming up in July and will be crazy busy until then, and Brian can't have vacation till October, we are really looking forward for a long weekend in Jekyll Island to relax. I can't wait to stick my feet in the sand and take long walks on the beach. Rest, play some games, ride bikes around the island... I'm really ready, hopefully the day is going by fast tomorrow and the traffic won't be as bad. We are prepared for some rain over the weekend, I packed our backgammon board, which we are addicted to and some beach games. What are your plans for Memorial Day? I wish all of you some nice peaceful days, get some rest and hopefully not such bad weather!

Wing Chair Recovery - Part II

Image
Only for those of you who already forgot how the wing chair looked when I first got it, here is a picutre which I took in the thrift store! For the amazing price of $18 it is all mine.   Too nasty to sit in, I first ripped off all of the fabric, (I'll spare you the details, since I blogged about that before ) layed the old fabric out, cut the new fabric pieces a little bigger than the old ones and made little fabric piles. I bought about 9' of fabric online at http://www.fabric.com/  I kept all of the old buttons, cut little circles and sewed fabric on each of them. I can tell you, that was my least favorite part.    After all 27 buttons were done, the back seat was the first piece that I re-buttoned.   The buttons go all the way through the fabric and cushion - the back part gets spread apart and rests on the foam. I put the cushion in place and stapled it firm to the back. Repeated all those steps with the seat. For the arms, I had to put some more battin

finally..

..today I was able to move into my very own office. :) I can't tell you how long I have waited for this moment to arrive. T wo and a half years ago, I started at my company and about every six months this topic of getting promoted came up. Unfortunately on the international side, where I was working, a manager position was not in the budget. So last week one of my colleagues on the domestic side (the operations and conference manager) quit her job and I got asked if I would like to take her position. Immediatly After a minute of consideration I agreed on the conditions, and since last monday I am a manager. Yes, you heard right, I am a MANAGER! I know that that means more responsibilty and more work, but also more money, my very own office with a door you can shut! a blackberry and some travel involved. In Germany I always had my own office, only one time I had to share one with my favorite ex colleague Tanja, who is now one of my dearest friends, (I guess that happens if you work
