Cupcake Debacle

Here is my first failure in baking cupcakes. It started with my new cupcake recipe book and using self rising flour. The plan was to bake vanilla cupcakes with shades of pink frosting.

I put mixed berries in the batting and folded them in.

I put the cupcakes in for 18min at 350F.
While in the oven, they overfloaded the cup,

and when almost done, they completely fell together.

I was about to cry - they were pretty much going into the trash right there.
Brian said, just call them muffins and be done with it. But I couldn't leave them as ugly as they were and crumbled all of the 12 cupcakes into a bowl.

I then mixed some strawberry frosting under, I had cake pops in mind! But it was so not going to stay in any kind of shape. Next idea, I put all of it into my decoration tube

and pressed little round shapes onto a cookie sheet.

Placed them into the fridge overnight and hoped they will become hard. Not happening either. SO I heated up the oven to 375 and baked them until the bottom turned brown. AND I have to tell you - they are delicious! :) and I named them Mixed Berry Treats.

Purple Pillow

One more pillow for the week, which already found a new home.
I love purple, and I wish I could keep all the pillows I'm making, but our house kinda overflows with pillows. So time to just make pillows for others.

It turned out very nicely, remembering I'm just using the fabric swatches I got free from our textile tradeshow in New York.

Green is for Hope

Green is the color of hope, why not have some pillows which remind you of not giving up your hopes (and dreams)? These two pillows are for a very good friend and colleague of mine.

I have sewed so many pillow cases, that I will spare you the written details of how to, but still show you some pictures in fast forward.

I hope to make her happy with those pillows!
I hope she can get some rest!
I hope she won't loose her hope that live get's better (One step at a time till that tradeshow is finally over in a couple of weeks)

Happy 2nd Birthday

From my post about Mr. Bear and the struggle with finishing in time, I had to come up with an easier and faster project to put something in the birthday package which needed to be sent to Germany in time for Carla's (my god child) second birthday.

So around midnight the night of throwing the teddy bear against the wall, I sewed a little two together in pink, stuffed it with batter and used liquid stitch to attach ribbon to the sides.

and off to Germany it goes!

Alles Liebe kleine Carla zu Deinem heutigen Geburtstag!

Decorative Brown Pillows

For a house warming party I made some pillows for a really good friend of mine.
She asked me if I could make a window seat cover out of brown fabric for her, and of course I was all in, but we are still waiting on the foam to arrive. To not go empty handed I sewed some brown pillows which she can place on her window seat. After sewing the brown pillow together,

I took about 4" of brown ribbon and sewed some thread across the middle.

and hot glued it onto the pillow case.

The second pillow I made was out of brown patterned fabric. After sewing it together I stitched three bronzed colored buttons on the thread line.

And here are both ready to decorate a new home.

Happy Valentines Day to all of you.
Have a wonderful day with your loved one.

Carina
